Your Sleep Habits:
Power
NapsYou’ve been out all
day going to classes and maybe even putting in a shift at
work… You get home and there’s a ton of school work waiting
for you… You start in… And you start getting hazy…
Well, what do you expect? You’ve already been thinking
and working all day! Your body is telling you that it
needs to take a break to recover.
If you try to study or write a
paper while you are sleepy, you won’t be efficient.
Instead of putting in 5 very inefficient and groggy hours,
give in and take a short nap! I call them “power naps!”
Turn everything (TV, radio, cell phone) off and take a 20-30
minute nap. You can even set your alarm if you think you’ll
drop off for hours. (If you drop off for hours, then
you aren't getting enough sleep at night!)
Just 20 minutes will buy you hours
of quality study time. And, really, 20 minutes is all you
need. There have been several studies showing that a short
nap is actually far better than an hour nap. Ah…
There’s nothing like a little nap at 4pm to get you up and
going for the rest of the evening!
Just pretend that you are back in
kindergarten – a cookie and a little nap on a “blanky” is
all you need!
Studies also show that you
remember what you put into your mind right before you go to
sleep! So, if you have some formulas or historical dates to
memorize, give them a quick read before your nap.
