Time With

There are two types of people in this world:  Positive thinkers and negative thinkers.  You know, the old “glass is half full” or “glass is half empty” thing.  The co-creator of Seinfeld, Larry David, says that he sees the glass as being just too big.  Now, there’s a creative pessimist for you!

To be successful in life, you always want to surround yourself with the positive-thinker types – especially when you are going through the stress of being a student!

For friends (especially your boyfriend or girlfriend), you want to pick people who are generally happy, mostly positive and always supportive of you and what you are trying to accomplish in life.  People like this will keep your stress levels down and will, actually, help you succeed in life!

As the saying goes…  You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose, but you can’t pick your friend’s nose.  Wait, that’s not how that goes!  Let’s try that again.  You can pick your friends, but you can’t pick your relatives.  Boy, life would be a LOT simpler if we could -- although some of us wouldn't have any relatives then!  So, what do you do about those negative relatives?  Do your best to avoid them during times of stress – like the night before an exam or when you’re trying to write a paper.

Also be careful about choosing study buddies!  If you are doing poorly in a class, the last thing you want to do try to study with someone else who’s doing poorly.  You know what will happen when you get together?  You’ll start talking about the class and it will quickly either turn into a pity party or a gripe session and you’ll just end up getting more stressed out.  If you are doing well in a class, it’s OK to do SOME studying with a student who’s doing poorly…  Hey, it’s good karma to help someone else

and you will actually learn more about the subject through tutoring.  For your main studying though, you want to get together with other students who are doing well and who have positive attitudes towards the class and teacher.

As I discussed in my “bedtime routine” section, definitely do NOT talk to negative friends and family during the couple of hours before bedtime as it will leave you feeling unsettled.
