We all want to put off unpleasant
things… Having to get a smog check done on your car, going
to the DMV, going to the dentist...
The two biggies that
students like to avoid are studying for exams and writing
research papers. I’m talking from experience here. Even in
elementary school, I’d put off projects until the night
before… Then, it was panic time to get them finished. I
didn’t really learn my lesson on this until I was in college
– not the first time I was in college, but when I decided to
go back to school when I was 21. I had been out in the
working world (as a receptionist who was everyone’s lackey –
not fun) and was more motivated to do my best... AND I
to keep my stress levels down to a minimum.
I know I’m not telling you anything
that you don’t already know from your own experiences here…
Putting things off till the last minute causes an ENORMOUS
amount of stress. I remember just being sick to my stomach
and almost in tears over a paper that I had put off and was
too tired to write – or a test that I was trying to scram
for at the last minute. For some of you, this is your SOSP
– your “Standard Operating School Procedure!” And you’re
stressed out. Heck, who wouldn’t be?
time you feel the urge to procrastinate,
just put it off!
