Ah... When a wave gets sucked back out to sea, the wet sand sometimes looks like this. It was at low tide... You can see some sea shells at the top. I'm taking the pic from in the water.

Taken with the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT on automatic setting using my new zoom lens, the Canon Zoom Telephoto EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS Image Stabilizer USM Autofocus Lens.

Photoshop: Ramped up the contrast a bit.
